Selecting Dictionaries & Languages

System dictionaries are language dictionaries that are shared by all users on a PC. They can't be edited and typically contain around 100,000 words in a single language.

The MapSpeller product includes American-, British-, and Canadian-English system dictionaries. Users may also decide not to use any system/language dictionary at all and rely on personal dictionaries or locationaries. The language of choice is set in the MapSpeller Options dialog under the Dictionaries tab.

Users can also decide to use their personal dictionaries (also called user dictionaries). Personal dictionaries are also language dependant. Therefore, each user has potentially one personal dictionary for each system language available.

In addition, the MapSpeller spell-checker also supports the use of danger dictionaries.

Important Notes

  • Only one language can be set at a time in MapSpeller in this version. However, Locationaries can be multilingual.
  • The names of the personal and danger dictionaries that can be used are dictated by the language of the system dictionary in use.
